Introduction
Ancient Anvilis the name of an enhancing system in Black Desert which acts as a “pity system” for enhancing. Each time you fail to enhance an item, you gain “Agris Essence” in your Ancient Anvil, and once you gain enough Agris Essence you can safely enhance the item with a 100% success rate.
- If you fail to enhance you automatically gain “Agris Essence” x1
- Enhancing using Cron Stones or J’s Hammer will still build Agris Essence if you fail
- When you gain enough Agris Essence you can enhance an item with a 100% success chance
- Enhancing an item using your Agris Essence will not consume a failstack
- The amount of Agris Essence you need depends on the item and enhancement level
- Agris Essence is not separate per item. Instead, certain Items are categorized so that the Agris Essence is shared for different types of gear
- Eg. Failing to enhance all types of Blackstar Weapons and Blackstar Armor will build Agris Essence for those items
- Agris Essence is separate for each enhancement level. For example, if you fail to enhance a Blackstar Weapon to PEN and it drops back down to TRI, your Agris Essence for the TET weapon will remain stored for when you enhance again at TET, and a separate Agris Essence will build for TRI.
- If you successfully enhance the item (with or without Agris Essence), then any stored Agris Essence will be consumed
Example of how to use Agris Essence
The amount of current Agris Essence on an item and the amount needed is shown in the enhancing window or on the item description.
Hovering over this TET Blackstar Crescent Blade Weapon shows that we currently have 0 Agris Essence and would require 40 Agris Essence to enhance with 100% success rate.
After failing to enhance 39 times, we can now see that in the enhancing window, we can see that we currently have 39 Agris Essence when enhancing this TET Blackstar Sah Chakram weapon, and we need 40 Agris Essence to successfully enhance it with 100% chance.
When we enhance the TET Blackstar Sah Chakram again and fail, we gain +1 Agris Essence, bringing the total to 40 Agris Essence. Even though we used Cron Stones in our enhancement attempt, we still gained +1 Agris Essence for a failed enhancement attempt.
Now that we have 40 Agris Essence, we can successfully enhance the TET Blackstar Weapon to PEN. The enhancement still requires a Blackstone but does not consume our failstack.
Agris Essence Item Groups
Items that are grouped together share the same Agris Essence when enhancing at the same enhancement level.
- For example, we can gain Agris Essence when enhancing any TET Blackstar Weapon or TET Blackstar Armor. This means we can use our TET Blackstar Sah Chakram, or our TET Blackstar Crescent Blade to increase our Agris Essence. if we fail to enhance the Blackstar Sah Chakram (Group 1), we will gain Agris Essence for the TET Blackstar Crescent Blade as well, or any other Group 1 – TET Blackstar item (such as Blackstar Kunai, Blackstar Gloves, etc.)
Accessories do not share Agris Essence based on the item type/slot and is stored separately for each item.
Eg. If you enhance a TET Deboreka Necklace and fail, you will gain +1 Agris Essence for a TET Deboreka Necklace.
This is only for a TET Deboreka Necklace and does not share with other Deboreka Accessories (such as the Deboreka Ring), or other necklaces such as a TET Ogre Ring.

Agris Essence required for 100% Enhancement
Once you reach a certain amount of Agris Essence on an item, you have a 100% success chance when enhancing the item. You will still need to use enhancement materials (such as Blackstones) to enhance the item, but a failstack will not be consumed.
The tables below show the Agris Essence required to 100% enhance an item.
For example, enhancing a TET > PEN Blackstar Sah Chakram with 100% success chance requires 40 Agris Essence.
